NCR, the
world's leading ATM provider, announced an alliance of its wholly owned
subsidiary, NCR EasyPoint LLC, with Australian-based wireless-technology
company, Symstream Technology Group Ltd.
The NCR
EasyPoint ATMs with the wireless connectivity option will initially be deployed
in developing countries that have extensive Global System for Mobile
Communications (GSM) voice networks, but limited data networks. The alliance
will focus first on opportunities in Indonesia, India and other parts of the
Asia-Pacific region.
The combined
solution will allow merchants to send transactions to their financial-services
provider without needing to connect to a fixed-line communications network. The
NCR-Symstream solution allows faster, reliable ATM services across a broader
geographic network and frees merchant customers from dependency on the
availability of sophisticated and costly fixed-line networks.
"The
integration of Symstream II with NCR's EasyPoint ATMs will provide the market
with a faster 'one-stop shop' approach to what has, historically, been a complex
and difficult solution to provide," explained Symstream Managing Director
Michael Neistat. "The quality of the NCR brand, the strength of their
distribution, support and technology, combined with our world-leading wireless
technology, will overcome many of the current barriers-to-entry in this market
segment, particularly in developing countries."
